About Us

Who We Are

Westwood is a totally non-denominational congregation of disciples dedicated to learning God’s timeless truths and the cultivation of Christ-like character. We are simply Christians, disciples of Christ (Acts 11:26; 1 Pet. 4:16). Though we are a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds, the tie that binds us together is our love for one another and devotion to Jesus Christ as Lord.

The Bible

We hold the Bible to be the inspired word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17). So, we look to the Bible alone as our guide for faith, service, and daily living. Our plea is based upon the belief that the Scriptures are completely adequate to equip us for every good work. The Bible is the source for all our sermons and lessons.

Discipleship

The gospel is the good news of salvation (Rom. 1:16). We believe that salvation is by the grace of God and is promised to everyone who accepts the gospel (Eph. 2:8-9). The life of discipleship begins with faith in Christ (Rom. 10:17), repentance of sin (Acts 2:38), confession of faith in Christ (Rom. 10:9-10), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 22:16). Baptism marks the beginning of a new life through a relationship with Jesus Christ (Rom. 6:4; Gal. 3:27).

Edifying Worship

The primary purpose for our meetings is to worship God as taught in the Bible. Like the church of the New Testament, our worship consists of hymns (Eph. 5:19), prayers (1 Tim. 2:8), and study of the Scriptures (Acts 2:42). Every Sunday we observe the Lord’s Supper, commemorating the death of Christ (Matt. 26:26-29; Acts 20:7). A collection is taken only on Sunday, when the members do their part to support our work through free-will offerings (1 Cor. 16:1-3). We believe worship should be approached joyfully, reverently, and according to God’s Word.

The Church

We believe the church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23), established by Jesus Christ Himself (Matt. 16:18). Christ alone is the head of his church, so we recognize no hierarchy or institutional structure (Col. 1:18). Each congregation functions autonomously. The church’s mission is to proclaim the gospel (1 Tim. 3:15). At Westwood, we strive to love one another, serve our community, and share the good news of Jesus.
